A custom set of classic playing cards designed for The Participation Agency’s “Outpost” and “Basecamp” experiential projects.
Each graphic element—the custom type on the box front, illustrations, backgrounds, and other elements—were created by myself. The only aspect I did not create formally was the font.
I learned a lot about myself as a designer and artist from this project—that I am both, and both skills can compliment the other even in a professional setting. I also explored how much I appreciate using textural imagery, and creating elements in photoshop.
"Talking" Album Cover
Brooklyn-based folk singer & songwriter Andrea Powell asked me to make the cover art for her debut, self-released album. Andrea has a lot of love for animals, so I thought a merry-go-round horse would be fitting.
Black Gold is a mythical whiskey brand that I thought up for a packaging project I had in school. The idea was to package whiskey as if it were juice in boxes (because… why not?). Pretty straight forward.
Car2Go Cafe Ads
I greatly enjoyed writing the copy for this advertising class project. The idea is to take popular pick-up lines and modify them to fit the context, almost as if Car2Go is sarcastically self aware of advertising and compares it to courting their potential customers. On one side of the cafe coster, there is the more traditional version of the pick-up line, but on the other side, it takes a twist. The wall poster goes into more detail about the benefits of Car2Go.
A personal project currently under production. Really just having fun with hand-lettering and image-distortion.
Sample pages of the look & feel.
“A collection of absurd, live-action, anthropomorphic characters made for children from the era of VHS.”
Petition Mailer Poster
This senior project piece is a poster that is folded into quarters and sent via post. It is alerting the public of a petition against mass hunting. The type stretches into lines, crossing out the words behind it and illustrating exactly what their intent is.
Airline Logo Mark
A personal project where I play with shape and negative space, while also giving the logo personality.
Rick Steves Zine
Here I created a zine about the essay Rick Steves wrote about legalizing marijuana and how it would benefit our country (before it was cool).
Rick Steves is a well-known, bland, TV travel-guide host who mostly tours Europe. The typography was inspired by European signage.
This was a conceptual, theoretical design project I completed at Pratt. We were instructed to “bootleg” an iconic, trademarked piece of design and change some aspect of it.
I repurposed the universally recognizable format of trading cards to feature celebrities that are often involved in Twitter battles. Instead of mythical monsters, the characters are real people, ridiculing the drama of social media arguments between some of our nation’s biggest egos.
Ed Fella Tribute
I made these posters just because I love Ed Fella. The imagery shows deconstruction with photo collage and manipulation.
